If you cannot use it, refuse it

The world environment day is all about raising awareness about nature and the importance of protecting it. On this Day people are encouraged to continue towards the safeguarding of the environment. Other than the celebration of the world environment day by the host city of the year, it is individually celebrated by the countries in their states, cities, hometowns, schools, colleges, public places, etc. with parades, cleanup activities, concerts, recycling initiatives, tree plantation, including all kinds of green actions to motivate and inspire people towards the bad condition of this beautiful planet.

It is an initiative to work together for taking some positive actions to maintain the beauty of the planet. We should keep in mind all the objectives of this campaign all around the year and convert them into actions accordingly in the form of beautifying the surrounding areas through plantation and cleanliness, saving water, less use of electricity, using organic and local foods, save wildlife, beat plastic pollution and so many. We have only one planet to live on, it is our home and only we are responsible to maintain its natural beauty forever.

It was necessary to establish this particular event to focus on environmental problems and give people a face to environmental issues. Its celebration helps us to understand the importance of healthy environment for our healthy life as well as to empower public to be the active agents of sustainable and environment-friendly development worldwide. It spreads the common understanding among people that it is must to change their attitudes towards environmental issues to ensure the availability of a safer and more prosperous future to all the nations and peoples.

WED campaign is run by the (UNEP). It was declared by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972 during the opening of a special conference for environment named as “Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment”. Its headquarters are in Nairobi, Kenya, however, celebrated in over 100 countries all across the world. It was celebrated first time in 1973. The celebration event of it is hosted every year by the different city (known as host city) with a different theme (declared by UNGA). It is celebrated through the international collaboration of people. The theme of world environment day celebration 2018 is “beat plastic pollution”. And the host country is once again India.

It focuses to bring people from all countries at one track to deal and combat with the climate changes and improve the management of forests. It is celebrated to encourage youths about the environment and climate change issues for safe future on the earth. Through it, political attention and public actions are enhanced. Youths of any country in the form of students are big hope to bring some positive changes in the environment full of pollution and global warming.

ENVIRONMENT SCIENCES are an interdisciplinary field of knowledge that combines physical and chemical sciences with biology and information technology to achieve the best solutions to the emerging environmental challenges in the modern time. Right from the evolution and progress of the organisms on the earth, Environmental sciences offer a comprehensive, quantitative and interdisciplinary approach to study the ecological systems. Environmental Studies include broad areas of inquiry including human relationships, perceptions, and policies towards the environment. While the environmental engineering focuses on the designing eco-friendly products, environment technology offers solutions for improving environmental quality in every aspect. Environment paper through media provides information on a wide range of- discoveries, inventions and case studies on diversified aspects like pollution, biodiversity, climate and weather changes, sustainable and innovative energy etc.

ENVIRONMENT POLLUTION is a phenomenon where natural ingredients are replaced or damaged by the presence of dangerous unnatural ingredients – which have the potentiality to cause an imbalance to the system and to create a number of health hazards to animals and human beings. Such unnatural ingredients may be gases (causing air pollution), solids (plastic), and liquids (causing water, food and land pollution) or sound (causing sound pollution). All of them cause an imbalance in ecosystem directly or indirectly and have the potentiality to cause health hazards to human beings and animals.

PLASTIC POLLUTION

Plastic is found in virtually everything these days. Our food and hygiene products are packaged in it. Our car, phone, and computer are made from it. And we might even chew on it daily in the form of gum. Most plastic is made from oil. Maybe we are not ready to break up with plastic altogether, but there is some low-hanging fruit that can make a big difference in reducing the amount of disposable plastic in our life.

33 million tons of plastic waste generated in the U.S. each year, but only 7 percent is recycled. Although recycling can help reduce the amount of garbage that ends up in landfills, waterways, and ecosystems, only a few types of plastic can be recycled by most municipal governments. The fraction that does get recycled still requires a lot of energy and water which just is not a good proposition when it comes to single-use items. Plastic garbage that ends up in landfills and oceans take hundreds of years to degrade, and there is increasing concern about the toxins they release into the environment.

PLASTIC POLLUTION CONTROL

In our modern lives, plastic surrounds us and cutting it out can seem daunting. Below are some easy ways to get started.

BRING YOUR OWN SHOPPING BAG

According to one estimate, somewhere between five billion and one trillion plastic bags are used each year around the world. Although free to shoppers, these bags have a high environmental cost and are one of the most ever-present forms of garbage. Bringing your own plastic bag is common but good environmental advice; governments through policies should encourage people to do it. Disposable shopping bags have been banned in a number of cities, like San Francisco and Washington, D.C.

STOP BUYING BOTTLED WATER

Unless there is some kind of contamination crisis, plastic water bottles are an easy target for reducing waste. Instead, keep a refillable bottle handy.

BRING YOUR OWN THERMOS TO THE COFFEE/TEA SHOP

Speaking of refillable, bringing your own thermos for to-go coffee is another way to reduce your plastic footprint. Disposable coffee cups might look like paper but they are usually lined with polyethylene, a type of plastic resin, which can be avoided with your own mug

CHOOSE CARDBOARD OVER PLASTIC BOTTLES AND BAGS

It is easier to recycle cardboard than plastic (although they are coated in a thin layer of plastic), plus paper products tend to biodegrade more easily without adding a lot of weight to the product the way glass or aluminum can. So, pick pasta in the box instead of bag, or detergent in the box instead of plastic bottle

USE MATCHES INSTEAD OF PLASTIC LIGHTER

If we start a fire for cooking or any reason select for matches over disposable plastic lighters. These cheap plastic devices sit in landfills for years and have been found in dead bird’s stomachs. Or pick up a refillable metal lighter to help cut down on waste

DONOT BUY JUICE

Instead of buying juice in plastic bottles, make our own fresh-squeezed juice or simply eat fresh fruit. It is better for us because we are not only cutting down the plastic waste but also getting more vitamins

CLEAN GREEN

There is no need of multiple plastic bottles of tile, toilet and window cleaner if we have a few basics on hand like baking soda and vinegar.

GIVE UP GUM

When we chew gum, we are actually chewing plastic created by synthetic rubber

SAY NO TO STRAWS

Plastic straws for drinks are not so much necessary; if it is very necessary then use reusable steel straws.

GET THE PLASTIC OFF YOUR FACE

Much of the plastic that is polluting the oceans is micro-plastic, tiny chunks that are next to impossible to filter out. These plastics can come from bigger items breaking down, but they are also commonly added to consumer products like face wash and toothpaste. There are many biodegradable alternatives, consider making your own.

SKIP THE DISPOSABLE RAZOR

Instead of tossing a plastic razor in the dustbin every month, consider switching to a razor that lets your replace just the blade or even a straight razor.

SWITCH FROM DISPOSABLE DIAPERS TO CLOTH

If you have got a young baby, you know how many diapers can end up in the dustbin each day. We can consider the reusable cloth option.

MAKE YOUR PERIOD WASTE-FREE

There are a number of non-disposable options out there to cut down on period waste, with reusable pads. This can reduce incredible amount of packaging that most pads are encased in.

RE-THINK YOUR FOOD STORAGE

Plastic baggies, plastic wrap, and plastic storage containers are worth re-evaluating. Instead of sandwich baggies, why not a Tiffin for lunch, jars or glass containers in fridge although it can definitely take a bit of courage and some explaining to help your local restaurants to understand.

SHOP IN BULK

For many households, the majority of plastic waste is generated in the kitchen. So one of the best ways to reduce the packaging waste madness is bring our own bags and containers and stock up on bulk foods.

All of this is too easy. Maximum people are already taking these steps and looking for ways to reduce waste in our life. Keeping in mind the condition of our environment, this is getting declined day by day because of the pollution and global warming. We should celebrate and promote eco-friendly development in our country in order to save the environment for better future.
