Poverty & Hunger is a Curse, It Only Breeds Contempt

Life with poverty is no less than a humiliation & indignity. It is a bed of thorns, which have been enlarging the sufferings & sorrows for the vulnerable people in the world. So basically, philosophy of poverty is when one has not proper access to food/lack of proper diet, clothing, shelter, and work. It also includes social deprivation, where even sage and wise people fall in inferiority complex during poverty. In other words, it is relating to the hunger, which describes the feelings of discomfort & uncertainty that needs safe keeping of sufficient food, shelter, and clothing etc.

However, when we talk about the international laws of the state system in developing countries like Pakistan, it equally safeguards the rights and duties of citizens of the state in a written document but in practices, it is almost nothing than a nightmare and wish.

Whereas, today’s era, where rich have enjoyed all the luxuries & extravagances on the map of earth from airplanes to other achievements, but now they wish to leave for other planets to live in to enjoy other hidden pleasures of the universe. On the other hand, poor around the world are dying of hunger, famine, malnutrition, and deprivation whereas they even cannot have access to a one-time meal a day. How horrific and dreadful is that where one has unlimited & uncountable wealth to enjoy the luxuries of life and others are facing the enormous challenges of life. Therefore, this division of resources has shaped contempt & scorn among the civilized and sympathetic people.

Though, the role of UNO is very positive and worth-praising through in combating the poverty in the titles of “Millennium Development Goal” before & now “Sustainable Development Goal”, whose mission is to provide the vital needs of life to every person in the world but indifference, the poverty in lingering day by day among the poor and developed countries. So, whom to be blamed for accountability, weather system or destiny. Although poverty must be alleviated through the proper division of wealth but not the destination/fortune of one.

Once I happened to visit village Gul Muhammad Samo, where I met with an emaciated young man named Allah Dino Samo. I asked few things related to his basic needs of his life. He, while shedding tears in his eyes, told the terrible and appalling story, which one can listen to it with a heavy heart. According to him, they even have not access to labor work, where they could be able to serve a one-time meal to their children but a series of sorrow and sufferings. Their lands are fertile but due to a shortage of water, there is no concept of cultivation, so we are destitute to do nothing also the other villagers like me are deprived & depressed, so spending their lives in vulnerabilities. They even could not serve their children the basic wants of their lives. So, there are so many people around the world like him, who cannot provide their offspring the necessities of their lives due to man-made unequal distribution resources.

On the other hand, if we look at the properties of state rules, we have nothing else the cry of contempt. They have been exploiting the wealth of public through elitism & superiorities. They do not know the importance of food due to their bursting bellies. It only can be important for those, who have been deprived of and destitute from it. One can ask importance of water by a thirsty man but not from one who has access to mineral water.

So, the essential thing or the object of talk is that how to cope up this unequal and improper division system where poor and unprivileged have been striving a lot for their survival and every day they are fighting for it but on contrary rich have been spoiling the misuse of wealth.

Incidentally, it is universal believed that hungry man is an angry man but I believe that hungry man is a helpless man, who have been facing the mammoth burden of his life in this cruel world of materialism but never mention it due to its vulnerability and helplessness. Therefore, let us think and find the way to solve this curse of hunger. Otherwise, the day would not be away when vulnerability & violation breed contempt & disdain among the victims

Hence let us globally promise to eradicate the curse of hunger & starvation and sincerely work for the survival of both, for victims as well for the offender, so do justice & fair distribution of resources, which have been equally blessed for all human being on the earth.

A Day Without Implanting a Tree, is a Wasted day

Almighty nature has bestowed us with a lot of natural beauties and a well-adjusted environment on the earth, which are the main source for our survival for in this world. But indifference, we have left nothing to destroy the ecosystem of the earth in this beautiful & smoothly ecosphere. In today’s era, where science has left remarkable as well unbelievable victories on the map of the world but it has also increased enormous harmful elements.

In this regard, if we talk on the ecosystem of earth, we get shrieked and cried that advanced and developed countries of the world have also damaged a lot to ecosystem though generating pollution & contamination to the neat & clean environment of the shining world.

However, in an atmosphere, where there is need of great care, if someone, who is playing a very positive role by contributing his good service through protecting the troposphere is an act of good deed.

An underprivileged but very hospitable community of village named Barr Jo Dhorro (Abdul Rehman Jatt) has been contributing their best services by planting trees in their village. When walking through this village, one cannot stop his admiration for greenery of trees, they had grown around their village.

While visiting this village, I found it a very neat & clean settlement, which was an ODF free environment. However, the structure of each household was so attractive, where everything was seemed to be placed in a smooth pattern. Besides, all the village was surrounded by the long trees, which were grown by them on self-initiatives.

During my talk with an old man of village about their past life experiences, Mr. Hasaan Jatt told that earlier period was so good because every village was well off & well-to-do due to bumper crop and it was all because we had huge access to irrigation water and timely rains, which could help us to grow our fertile lands but as the time passes, we receive insufficient water as well no rain due to investing our ecosystem. This has become our life disturbed. He more added that cutting of trees has become the hobby of some timber mafia people here in our surroundings but in contrast people of our village are so conscious to grow the trees in our village, so that at least we feel it our prime responsibility to protect our environment, which is our survival otherwise, our future generation will perish if we did not care for it. He further talked that every human on earth must plant a tree so that our environment and survival might be protected.

I was wondered that how an old man is so sensible & conscious for the protection of our surroundings. It was a moment of huge learning for me and I thought would that every human thinks about that old man, who is standing on verge of last moments of his life but cares a lot for the safety of the world environment.

By concluding this, I wondered and whispered myself that which factors are the responsible, who have been damaging this attractive ecosystem, which cannot be found on the map of the universe.

Therefore, it must be a prime responsibility to circulate the message of the plant a tree, which would be counted as a prayer and worship that would save the existence of breathing and living belongings. However, pollution is no less than cancer disease, which is destructing nature day by day but the concerned authority does not seem to be so serious for awareness about its dangers. The things must be resounded timely to protect from the maximum loss. The slogan must be echoed of “SAVE ENVIRONMENT, SAVE EXISTENCE”.

Water, Water, Everywhere Water but No Drop to Cultivate the Fertile Lands”

History is witness that where the access to irrigation water is sufficient anywhere in any country in the world then the survival is easy & comfortable.

Our treasured Pakistan since its inception have been depending on its economy on agriculture that because we are called an agriculture country. However, agriculture is the backbone of our country’s economy. Agriculture I Pakistan plays a very pivotal & essential role among the lives of common people of all provinces of our state.

If we put our eyes on the previous growth of our agriculture, then we feel a sigh of relief, because life of common people was so good in early days soon after independence.

However, if we shed light on the current scenario of failed policies of our state’s inefficient leaders then we only find wilderness around our country-side.

Among those victim areas of water shortages, Kadhan Union Council, which is located at the coastal belt area of Badin District have been suffering an acute shortage of irrigation water. It’s also in tail end area. The people of this area basically depend on agriculture lands, their survival relates to irrigation water but for many years, they have been suffering from acute shortage of water due to tail-end but our inefficient & incapable rulers have not any solution of their problem, who came close to them and listen their voice.

While seeing the worst condition of these areas, Indus Consortium team of Badin intervened in these area of UC Kadhan, where the project team met with local people and formed the VDOs & LOs.

Since the start of September 2016, Indus Consortium team started to mobilize the local communities for taking self-initiative, so that they might be able to cope their grave issue of water shortage.

Therefore, after formation of Kadhan Alliance & establishment of Alliance Office, they started to work for the solution of water issue.

In this regard, on the plate form of Alliance that held rallies and raised the slogan of “Water, Water, Water but No Drop to cultivate our fertile lands.” They enforced government officials to take a prompt step for their help of bringing the timely water in their water canals, so that they might be able to cultivate their lands

Moreover, in this way, all Alliance members including many other villagers collected the amount of more than 2,00000 rupees on self-help basis for cleansing/disilting the water canal for the purpose of to cultivate their fertile lands.

Finally, their consistent effort brought positive results and consequences. Therefore, within few days they were provided irrigation water in their areas. Villagers of surrounding areas are very pleased.

Nevertheless, Indus Consortium team with their all zeal and zest is feel pleasure through standing by these deprived and marginalized communities of tail-end as well coastal belt communities. Consequently, many other communities from different areas of Badin came closer to the project staff for their help & support to intervene in their areas.

Globalization and ICTs

Globalization has fast-tracked economic integration among various countries around the world with an exponential increase in free trade, overseas investments, capital flows from developed to developing countries, monetary and fiscal deals as well as changes in the information communication and technology (ICTs).

Globalization has been embedded virtually in all measures of life – from individuals to businesses, institutions, organizations, state, and government.  The flow of ideas, information, things, and goods has increased significantly.

After World War II, there have been lot of work by politicians that led to the agreement for the Bretton Woods Conference, in which major governments set down the framework for international monetary policy, commerce, finance and the formation of several international institutions such as The United Nations, The World Bank, The International Monetary Fund, and the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) these have made significant paradigm shifts and developments in the global economies.

Rising globalization has more been promoted by fast-changing contemporary ICTs and the economic policies supported by the ideas of neo-liberalism. Because of these two developments, the globalization has captivated the big corporations and companies, and it has been very integral part and has made its roots entrenched. Furthermore, capitalizing on the politicians has captured the wealth and resources.

Today’s businesses have all been shifted to Information, Communication, and Technology (LCT) and in the last fifty years, it has witnessed a tremendous progress in globalizing the world businesses, trades, and economies.

In our days, the economies depend on the information because the development of computers, the internet, satellite communications, and telecommunications have all contributed a lot to the fast flow of information and data transfer from one country to another. The global news events and monetary transactions happen instantly across the globe.

Around the world today neo-liberal economic ideas dominate that help flourish globalization. This notion is based on free markets and trade, trifling government involvement and regulation. Not only are this but its more domains, it accentuates the competition, profitability, efficiency and growth. Ultimately, the beneficiaries of these policies are rich and high-fi business community.

The idea of globalization has unified the world economies through the power of ICTs. The international infrastructures have changed the system of free trade, which allows the increased flow of goods and financial transactions.  The main actors in this domain are the states, multinational companies, and investment banks that share the same economic philosophy.

The trajectory of Pakistan’s economy is growing to contribute to the reduction of poverty since last the few years. But its pace is sluggish because we lag behind in the advancement of present-day technologies that cause thriving of the economy.

Presently, we are expecting a lot from the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). As it would make Pakistan’s economy globalized through familiarizing with new packages of information, communication, and technology. One of its initiatives has already been carried out in the shape of demutualisation and divestiture of Pakistan stock exchange.

Since the implanted ideology of globalization and neo-liberal economic policies has caused inequality and widen the gap between the rich and the poor in Pakistan. That today, there are 44 richest people in Pakistan against around 190 million populations.

To compete with accelerating global economy and to make it sustainable, we need to progress in the field of information communication and technology because, in future, the whole economy is going to be more digitized, globalized and ICTised.
